How to clean fireplace glass doors

Get that creosote and soot off; it's easy!

When I first began having fires in my new high-efficiency fireplace, I thought I had somehow ruined it! The glass (actually ceramic) was "stained" brown, and no matter how hard I scrubbed, or what cleaning products I had on hand that I used, the glass was still stained,  and it seemed like there was no way to get it off.

I went to the instruction manual that came with my Brentwood fireplace (by Lennox), and it said I should go to the store where I got my unit to purchase special cleaning products to get the creosote off. Hmmmmm ...

Well, my first thought when I know I have to buy something is to look online first, to see about what it's going to cost, research it a bit, maybe buy it online if I find a good deal.

In the process of researching it, I found one person who said you could use the ashes from the fire to clean the glass. Hmmmm, I thought. That's interesting, but I was pretty skeptical.

I got a paper towel, wet it a bit, and dipped it in the ashes, and after a bit of work, yes, the "stain" did come off. Great! I don't have to buy any products!

What I have learned since then that if you use WARM water, it comes off VERY EASILY. It's truly amazing!

So that's my tip for you today. You don't have to buy anything special. Just use the ashes from your fireplace to clean the window, then finish up with a damp newspaper for a beautiful, shiny, streak-free appearance.
